When I was a little girl, I had a notebook under my bed that held all of the award show winners. My mother and I used to make a full-fledged event out of awards shows, with specially-prepared dinners and ginger ale in champagne glasses. I always wondered what it would be like to make a presentation at such an event.
Well, tomorrow I get my chance to find that out. This year, theCosmetics Executive Women (CEW) have generously asked beauty bloggers to present onstage at their gala CEW Beauty Awards Gala.
Held at the grand New York institution that is the Waldorf=Astoria, this is a gathering of the biggest names in the beauty industry and media. It’s a grand spectacle.
This year, not only have I been invited to attend, I’ve been asked to present some of the awards. Yep, you know what this means: RED CARPET MOMENT EXCITEMENT! I was cool about it for a minute, but right after accepting their invitation, this happened:
So, the reason that there hasn’t been a ton of coverage this week is because I’ve been trying to pull together everything I’ll need to make this big moment. Because, sadly, I cannot roll up onstage in my typical freelancer uniform. No, folks…I have to get red carpet ready for this moment. Here’s a checklist that proves that it does indeed take a village:
The dress? That was actually the easy part. I called the amazing folks at Rent the Runway, which is what every gal should do for her red carpet moment. With an incredible selection to choose from, I was able to nab a fantastic dress from Preen. As with any other red carpet moment, I can’t give you the big revealuntil tomorrow when I’m in it, but the shot above will give you an IDEA of what I rented. The dress just arrived and it fits beautifully.
The dress I chose is rather formfitting, so I called the amazing folks over at Yummie Tummie for some shapewear. Because standing on a stage and having your image flashed on a jumbotron is NOT the time for a muffin top situation to occur. Luckily, the items I chose simply smooth everything down so the dress will simply skim the body for a gorgeous look.
Since I’m growing my hair out naturally, I don’t have my usual pin-straight locks. In order to ensure a great hair look, I called on my Husband in My Head, the amazing Marcos Diaz of ION Studio in Soho, to give me a great Davines deep conditioner and a blowout for tomorrow’s big moment.
I’m also wearing open-toed shoes, so I hopped over to Eve Salon here in NYC for their new and amazing Peach Tea Pedicure. Not only did I get a killer pedi with the new peach-scented scrubs and lotions that make this signature pedi a must-do here in the city, but I also got to sip a peach-infused tea while I waited (I skipped the option to spike mine with schnapps, but if you’re so inclined, they will get that party started for you.) The result? Gorgeous blue toes! The look was achieve with Zoya Nail Polish in Robin (two coats) with 2 coats of Zoya Maisie Fleck Effect (a sparkling top coat.)
The fingernails I’ll do myself tonight with some of MAC Cosmetics new amazing permanent collection of nail lacquers. People, the colors that they’ve come out with are spectacular – 31 of them in total in three amazing finishes: cream, frost and pearl. I’m going with MAC Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in Girl About Town, a rich azalea pink in a cream finish.
Finally, I will be rocking nude legs tomorrow, so an even tone is a must. Luckily, tonight’s ritual includes applying the super easy Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pad for Body with Active Vitamin D, which will help even my skin tone and deposit a fresh faux glow along with much needed Vitamin D. I regularly use the Alpha Beta Glow Pad for face, and I love the easy application and lasting results of the body product! You can pick them up now at Sephora.
Finally, tomorrow morning my day starts bright and early with makeup and a hair refresher, courtesy of COVERGIRL. The amazing Jake Bailey and his team will be working their magic on all the beauty blogging presenters, so we’ll see what my makeup looks like! I know I’m in great hands!
So, stay tuned to Facebook, Twitter, Pose (I’m @fashionstbeauty) and Instagram (I’m at FashionStyleBeauty) tomorrow for all the coverage from backstage. Wish me luck and hopefully you’ll join me for coverage of all the fun from my first big red carpet moment!
