Last night was the official kick-off of 2012’s red carpet season and it’s off to an interesting start. I watched the event from the Style Coalition’s Golden Globes party, sponsored by the lovely folks at Dove. More about those fantastic products (and the amazing evening) later, but right now, let’s get to the best of the fashion tribe, shall we? Here are my picks for the red carpet’s best from last night:
The return of the superstars: Three of my red carpet favorites made their return to the red carpet last night as nominees and in order to promote their current projects. Hats off to Charlize Theron, who made her presence known in Dior Couture paired with stunning Cartier jewelry and a vintage headband from the same.
Another red carpet favorite (and a personal one of mine,) Angelina Jolie, stamped her official movie star fashion card in Atelier Versace and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry last night. As polarizing as she can be personally, you cannot deny that the woman KILLED it on the red carpet last night.
My final happy return to the red carpet was the ever-gorgeous Kate Beckinsale, looking amazing in Roberto Cavalli and Lorraine Schwartz earrings and matching diamond cuffs.
Women of color made their stamp on the red carpet last night in vivacious form and it was a welcome sight! Let’s talk about Paula Patton, who practically made me WEEP in canary yellow Monique Lhuillier last night. YES, girl. Work it.
Making a clean sweep of the awards this season, Octavia Spencer, also made it work in one of my favorite designers, Tadashi Shoji. She paired her lovely curve-hugging gown with Irene Neuwirth jewels, Christian Louboutin shoes and a Judith Leiber clutch.
Gucci made a great showing on the red carpet last night, dressing Evan Rachel Wood, Salma Hayek and the lovely Jessica Alba, who added Bulgari jewels for beautiful impact.
Zac Posen also made a very triumphant showing last night, with a slew of dresses on the red carpet. The best of his lot (in my humble opinion) belongs to Reese Witherspoon, who looked SEXY last night (not a word you think about with her, really.) She looked Kate Hudson red carpet sexy. Marinate in that for a second.
Another personal favorite who just KILLED it on the red carpet? Nicole Richie, who blew everyone away in Julien MacDonald, stacks of diamond jewelry, Jimmy Choo heels and a gorgeous House of Harlow bag.
Emma Stone continues to rack up red carpet accolades, this time in lovely Lanvin with Cartier jewelry.
Last but not least for my picks of the tops of the red carpet is Tilda Swinton, who was channeling David Bowie circa mid-1980’s in the always amazing Haider Ackermann and Fred Leighton jewels. LOVE it, Tilda.
