One of my favorite things to do in New York City is walk by major retailers and check out the windows. It started with when I moved here all those years ago in 2001 (the first time I moved to New York, this most recent being the third): I would have my little Breakfast at Tiffany’s moment and stroll by the windows of the shops on Fifth Avenue and just dream about all the beautiful things inside. Now, when I have time between meetings, I walk the lengths of Manhattan’s famed thoroughfares and just marvel at the artistry. The holidays are usually the best time of year to see something truly spectacular…until now.
This morning, Saks Fifth Avenue invited me along with a few other online media properties to get a first look at their new windows, a little thing they’re calling Glam Gardens. If you’ve ever been in a Saks Fifth Avenue before, you know they’re just beautiful stores (particularly the New York flagship on Fifth,) but they’re taking it up a notch by transforming ALL the stores into a magical garden. You really have to see it to believe it. It’s positively breathtaking.
The New York decor includes a transformation of all of the outside display windows. The store worked with 35 of their beauty retailers from the famed Beauty On One, the floor most of us like to call Heaven on Earth, to create custom “gardenscapes” with floral arrangements unique to every single one. The efforts were incredible: 120 boxwood balls, ten full-grown topiary trees, and 100,000 flowers were grown specifically to bring each vision to life. Tom Ford’s display had to be grown specifically for the window, and the result is absolutely worth it.
I’ve captured some of my favorites below, but you really have to see it yourself if you can: it’s positively inspiring. If you’re not local to NYC, please enjoy.
The kick-off event is tomorrow, May 5th, and will launch 250 events in the New York store. The window displays will be up through the month from express facials, hand and neck massages to mother-daughter portraits and so much more.
I think in times like the ones we find ourselves in currently, a little beauty is not a bad thing. Grab your loved one by the hand and come check out the gardenscapes and the store if you’re here in New York in May, but definitely make a journey to the stores across the country. A little magic in your day never hurt anyone, and they are just that: magical.
