We here at FSB love a good deal but when we can present the opportunity for the products we feature to make the world a better place, so much the better. Tonic, the leading media and ecommerce site focused on effortless activism and social good has partnered with iconic fashion designer Donna Karan and her philanthropic cause, Urban Zen, to create a line of fantastic tees available starting today. Sold exclusively via Tonic’s website, the limited collection of bamboo and organic cotton tees are $65 and feature the four main causes close to Donna and Urban Zen as their design concept. “Donna is a super good friend of mine and we were just chatting out our different initiatives and the more we talked about it, the more we figured we should try it out,” said Pankaj Shah, Founder and CEO of Tonic when we asked him how the collaboration with Urban Zen initiative came about.
Tonic’s concept is unique and refreshing in that the proceeds from the price of the shirts all go to good causes. “We wanted to get out of the charity picking business, so when we think out our collaborations for whoever is in the pipeline, we want to make sure that the funds directly impact the causes that are dearest to their hearts,” said Shah. Ten percent of each t-shirt purchase will go to the Urban Zen initiative, which strives to create a world of compassion and caring by focusing on patient wellness, empowering children around the world and empower cultures to maintain their identities and dignity. Another ten percent will go to the Tonic Foundation, funding causes selected by its members and carefully vetted by a staff that disburses the funds and then tracks and reports on progress. Still another twenty percent will be donated to charitable causes.
We are huge believers in conscious shopping and love the concept of philanthropic fashion. A novel concept that to give more to the world today, you don’t have to give the shirt off your back: you buy and put one on.
