It occurred to me the other day that I haven’t been super helpful with the beauty tips recently. Let’s change that. Let’s talk about how you get your face to look better in the morning.
I’m not going to tell you to wash your face because, well, you should know that by now. As a matter of fact, if you don’t wash your face before you go to bed, you should stop reading because nothing I tell you will ever work. I’m not kidding. You could buy the most expensive products in the world, but if they can’t penetrate a mask of dirt, makeup, grime and other souvenirs from your day, you will never see results. Also, for those who say, “But I didn’t get sweaty or gross today” as their excuse for not washing their face before they go to sleep? You are a person in the world, and every single moment in this world means interaction with your environment. So, please, for the sake of all the things you want to accomplish with your beauty routine, wash your face. Even a wipe will do if you’re just over it. But you have to get that stuff off there.
I have spoken. Now. Let’s talk about night treatments, particularly this awesome item from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare.
In the spirit of merging my freelance beauty editing life with this lovely blog, I should tell you this medical marvel is one of my favorite experts to interview for articles, and he is HANDS DOWN one of the most gifted product developers out there. Beauty editors are obsessed with him, ladies and gents. Obsessed. If it were okay for us to follow him around grabbing products that fell from his gifted hands, we would do it. The reasons we love him dearly: the man is a fountain of knowledge of the skin and everything that conceivably go wrong with it; and he creates products we don’t even know we need until he creates them that do exactly what they say they’re going to do. I’ll also add that he’s a sweetheart, a great human being, and one of the smartest beauty geniuses out there.
His newest product offerings are the Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel and Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum, which you can consider the one-two punch against sagging skin, fine lines, and a whole host of skin issues that happen as you age (and if you don’t wash your face, but we won’t go there.) The combination of ferulic acid (a powerhouse antioxidant found in the seeds of fruits like apples and oranges) and retinol (a natural form of Vitamin A that helps with cellular turnover) essentially delves deeply into the skin while you sleep and helps break up free radicals that cause damage along with telling your cells that, hey, we’ve got to get rid of all that dull, dead skin at the surface. They work together seamlessly: the peel helps remove dead skin without irritating (as long as you don’t have allergies or extreme sensitivity; check with your doctor, always), and the serum immediately follows to get in there and reinforce the efficacy. Use it regularly, and every morning when you wake up, you have brighter, more luminous skin that will refine in texture along with an increase in — and here’s the real kicker — firmness.

As someone who had a pretty set nighttime routine before this came along, I’ve been really impressed with the results over the past month as I’ve been using it. The lax skin around my jawline is tightening up, and I have this crazy good glow that I really love. I haven’t had any sensitivity with the products at all (and I’m someone who has reactions, like, all the time,) so it passes my test. If you’re thinking that you need an extra beauty boost to your skincare routine before you go to bed, I’d recommend giving this a try at night. I think you’ll really enjoy what you see tomorrow.
