I do love to entertain and when throwing a good party, the most important thing you can offer is a signature drink for the evening. It does three things:
1) You don’t have to go through the expense of offering a full bar of offerings, so it’s actually cost effective.
2) It you have a bartender working, it makes their life a lot easier. If guests are serving themselves, it makes things fast and efficient.
3) It’s fun and special, adding a sophisticated effect to the event.
For tonight’s Oscars red carpet broadcast and resulting soirees across the world, I’d tell you to head to your local liquor purveyor to try GIVEN Liqueur. Pronounced “jee-VAHN,” it’s a fantastic new way to enjoy tequila without the aggressive taste and it’s one of my new personal favorites. It’s a combination of jalisco tequila, all-natural lime juice from whole limes and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The mixture is then handcrafted via an infusion process in the Cognac region of France, which yields a smooth, sweet liqueur that will have your guests simply raving.
Oh yes. Because that’s how I roll.
While I can actually sip the cocktail straight or on the rocks (and I recommend trying it that way,) it does add the most delicious spin on other spirits. Here are two amazing cocktail ideas with my new favorite libation for this evening’s Oscars gatherings:
- 3 oz GIVEN
- 1 oz champagne or sparkling wine
- 4 mint leaves
Pour GIVEN with mint leaves into shaker with ice cubes. Shake vigorously and strain into champagne flute. Slowly add champagne. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
For those of you who like your cocktails with a bit more kick, give this one a try:
GIVEN Spicy Pomme
- 3oz GIVEN
- 2 thin wheels of jalapeno
- 2 slices of Granny Smith Apples
Muddle apples and jalapeño in shaker. Add GIVEN into the shaker with ice cubes. Shake vigorously and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a slice of apple and jalapeño.
Be sure to serve alternative beverages for those who don’t choose to partake and be sure to make sure that no one drives afterwards. Nothing less sexy or cool than drinking and driving. Enjoy responsibly, you over-21 crowd! Happy Oscars Day!
