Stylish Food Obsessions: My Anti-Processed Sugar Love For Cascal Fermented Soda

Again, you know if something is really good, I’m going to tell you about it and right now, that involves my new non-soda addiction.

If any of you have met me and we’ve had a discussion, you know that my favorite show on earth is The Biggest Loser. I watch past seasons with the vigor of someone who’s never seen television before. The show itself was the inspiration for my own weight loss (which topped out at 241 lbs almost five years ago) and I cry like a baby through every episode new and old. Yep, I’m the Biggest Fan of The Biggest Loser.

A past episode from Season Five taught me something that has literally grossed me out so much that I’ve tried to avoid soda like the plague ever since. The average can of soda contains 40 grams of sugar. The average American drinks something like 570 cans of soda a year, which equates to something like 50 lbs of sugar a year, which in turn equates to 25 lbs of weight gain.

Yikes. Hence, I rarely ever drink soda anymore. I look for any alternative when I need something fizzy and fabulous and, lo and behold, I came across this fabulous beverage at a recent event and I literally cleaned them out of samples. Cascal Fermented Soda is a soda that contains  fermented malt and juices of various varieties (by concentrate, in the spirit of full disclosure) depending on what flavor you choose. Besides the taste (which I personally LOVE THEM ALL,) it also has ingredients that I recognize – things like fermented apple juice and sparkling water. Add to that the stats (60 calories a can, no artificial sweeteners, 30 mg of sodium and 10 g of sugar) and I’m a pretty happy camper.

You can ask the people at the event because I cleaned them out and now I’m Jonesing for more. Ladies and lovelies, if you can get your hands on this soda alternative, do it because it’s REALLY GOOD. And nope, no one is paying me to say this. I just happened to pick this up and a function and loved it so much that I’ve launched a full-scale personal mission to make sure everyone else knows how FAB it is.

And yes, I’m fully aware that the best alternative is water but sometimes water is boring and you want something else. Of the “something else” category, this is my selection for a healthier, tasty alternative.
