Summer Travel Essentials: Beauty and Fashion Must-Haves For Memorial Day Weekend

My Memorial Day travel essentials.

Ok, so Memorial Day weekend is coming up shortly, so let’s get you ready to get out of town and into some delicious sun, fun and relaxation. It doesn’t matter if you’re going by train, plane or automobile, I have some particular favorites I’m going to be rocking this weekend. Here in the photograph are some of my fashion and beauty essentials, no matter what you’re doing:

I get cold easily, so gigantic scarves that double as blankets are a must. My favorite is the Sir Alistair Rai Ikat Wrap in Black. It works as a throw, a sarong, a scarf and can double as a headwrap. It goes with me everywhere.

That delicious slice of white is the Skin Ribbed Tunic. Made of 100% superfine ribbed pima cotton, it feels like absolute heaven. If you don’t like getting out of your pajamas, don’t. Throw this top with jeans, over a swimsuit, with a wrap skirt for sightseeing, then sleep in it at night. It’s so soft I swear it feels like it must have been made from unicorn tears.

The hat is the Hat Attack Classic Brim Fedora. It’s from their new sun protection line, which means that it’s tightly woven to produce an UPF factor of 40-50+, which means it’s proven to block 97.5-98% of the sun’s harmful rays (in accordance with AATCC183.) This hat will be going everywhere with me this summer.

I like to pack things in a clutch when I travel so I can use the clutch for evening or other looks. This one is from ASOS and, although it’s no longer available, the River Island Neon Laser Cut Clutch Bag is similar and just as good of a selection. Throw your makeup, chargers or other essentials in it when you pack, then dump everything out and throw your wallet and essentials in it.

The watch was a gift from the amazing Robert Verdi: the Brera Supersportivo Watch. It’s stylish, water-resistant and is an incredibly stylish, borrowed-from-the-boys looking timepiece. I have so many guys that want to borrow this from me, I now understand why it’s annoying when I borrow things from their closets. Well, almost.

Makeup for me is really easy on holiday weekends. In addition to sunscreen (not pictured, but used with wanton abandon,) I favor Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Pearly Brown for good eye definition that lasts under water, sweat and intense heat. I use Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural #N1 Iridescent Nude for lips and cheeks with lasting wear. Maybelline Color Tattoo Shadow in Tenacious Teal kicks up the look night or day, just add waterproof mascara.

Scent: I’m a fan of ouds when it comes to fragrance and one of my longtime loves is Rose Oud from By Killian. It’s a sensuous, feminine scent that says, “Have him washed and brought to my tent immediately.”

Sunnies? I’m a Ray-Ban Wayfarer Gal, always have and always will be. This pair with colorful transparent stripes is a personal favorite.

Finally, everyone needs a good comfortable shoe for walking, beach and traveling. My new favorite pair  comes from the good folks at Havaianas, who just introduced these Origine Slip-Ons. They come in a gazillion colors and are super comfy. Plus, they pack beautifully and relieve you of flip flop drama when your feet are wet.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone! I’m taking some much-needed time off to enjoy some fun in the sun myself. See you next week!
