It’s Sunday morning and there’s a whole week out there just waiting to be conquered. I’m so inspired to mix up my look this week based on some gorgeous photographs I spotted in some magazines recently. Here are just a few things that are inspiring me this week:
Music video on steady repeat: It’s all about dreams this week. Thus, one of my glamour gods has been inspiring me lately: David Bowie. I’ve been jamming out to “Fame” pretty regularly. One of my favorite quotes ever? His wife, supermodel and style icon Iman was once asked what she sleeps in. Her reply? “David Bowie.” <sigh>
Speaking of the two of them, I still have the image from the Guess campaign they did years ago on my inspiration board here in the apartment. One of my favorite couples of all time. C’est chic, no?
Style Icon(s): Since I just recently chopped my hair at the lovely Arrojo studio, I’m playing with the shortened length and now I need some new short hair icons. I’m toying with a few things, like boyish-but-oh-so-French styles like Jean Seberg…
…and then there’s color, which means like every good legendary supermodel-loving woman, I turn to eternal color chameleon Linda Evangelista…
….and then there’s my obsession with indie princess Shannyn Sossamon. I might have to rock this rocker cool look this week.
Makeup items: Based on these inspirations, I’m feeling the need to go with a more pronounced eye and a wine red lip inspired by the work that two of my favorite makeup artists, Pat McGrath and Dick Page, were able to create. In their honor, I’ll be using two of their favorite products to create this makeup look. Dick is a consultant for Shiseido and has created the most magical collection of cream shadows known to man, so I’ll be using Shiseido Shimmering Eye Color in Caviar, which looks like the hue of the real thing – a shimmering black with hints of green and blue iridescence. It’s incredibly easy to apply and so incredibly sexy. LOVE.
In honor of Pat’s glorious cabernet-stained mouth for Gucci Fall 2011, I’ll be mixing CoverGirl LipPerfection LipLiner in Sophisticated (a dark, almost-black liner) with CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lip Color in Hot (a scarlet red.)
Now, the trick not to get 90’s liner mouth is to line the lips, then fill them in. Add the lipstick over it using a lip brush so it blends into a tinted red. But be sure to BLEND it in. People will ask you all night what lipstick color you’re wearing. Just smile. It will also stay put for a long, LONG time.
As far as clothing goes, I’m still looking for the perfect leather pants. Maybe I’ll finally have the guts to try that pair of J. Brand Leather Skinny Pants. They look SKINNY, which makes my curvy girl thighs and ass understandably nervous.
And that’s about it for the week. OH, the Handbag I’m lusting over this week? The Rebecca Minkoff Cupid in Raspberry. <sigh> Need. Want. I cry myself to sleep thinking of this bag.
xoxo ladies! hope this inspires you this week!
