Sunday Inspiration Board: What’s Influencing My Look This Week

I’m a firm believer in creating mood boards and inspiration boards for two reasons. One, I’m an entirely visual person, which means that if it’s not right in front of my face, I am bound to forget it mere moments later. Second, I think it’s important to draw inspiration for your look, your life and your goals to look outside yourself for things that inspire you.

Since I basically do this every Sunday, I thought it might be interesting to show you what images are inspiring my look this week. You might see a few of these items pop up on the site in one way or another or somewhere in my appearance throughout the week. After all, that’s the most thing about freedom: you can reinvent yourself at any time. 🙂

I was rediscovering my DVD collection this weekend and happened upon my copy of Factory Girl. If you’ve never seen it, it’s a biopic of 60’s style icon Edie Sedgwick, the poor little rich girl that became the fashion icon of Andy Warhol’s Factory. Sienna Miller kills it in the performance (the photo above is of the real Edie, though.) It’s not exactly the feel-good movie of the year, but I have always had a little obsession with Edie’s look. Try: black winged liquid eyeliner and a lush mascara.

Also rediscovering my music collection, I found myself listening to a lot of Janet Jackson this weekend. Inspired by new new curly hair for summer (the epic documentation of which will run tomorrow) I found myself inspired by Ms. Jackson’s spiral hair and raw, sexy look from the “If” video. Please do enjoy if you haven’t for a while. It’s a dance-around-the-room kind of moment. Try: glowing skin, sexy mane of hair, perhaps a dance move or two.

I am the world’s biggest Stevie Nicks fan and ever since the album came out, I haven’t been able to stop listening to it and rediscovering my love for this powerhouse singer. Since the Best News On Earth was released that Fleetwood Mac will be touring in 2012 (courtesy of NME), I’ve also been playing with some Stevie-inspired looks. You’ll see what I mean tomorrow. In the meantime, if you haven’t downloaded In Your Dreams, do so immediately. Try: 70’s chic looks with batwing sleeves, shawls, berets and shaggy hair.

Oh, and the album I can’t stop listening to right now? Priscilla Ahn’s When You Grow Up. Mellow, easy and perfect for lazy mornings or chilling out at night before you head to sleep. I listen to it while I work and it’s so beautiful and melodic. It’s like a hug from an old friend you’d almost forgotten you had. Try: mellowing out.

Oh, and with a birthday party coming up soon, I’m focused on shoes for my big bash, of course. The Shoe Du Jour for the night will be these gorgeous Kate Spade Charm heels in Multi Glitter. I mean, when only the best shoe will do. I’m sure Edie would approve. Try: dancing on a table top or two (or three.)

The Core Fusion 90-Day Challenge continues and I am actually going to need some new clothes soon. I love dresses for their easy allure and the fact that you can throw one on and look major in under five seconds. I love this gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff Stone Floral Shirtdress for a chic day-to-night option. Try: wearing more dresses for day to night busy days.

Finally, I’m just as obsessed with Gwen Stefani as the next girl and had to get my hands on her new official red lip color, L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge Lip Color in Ravishing Red. I’m going to be playing with seven different colors in the collection over the week and one of you lucky ducks will win all seven lip colors. Stay tuned! Try: experimenting with a lip color that you may never have dared worn before.

I hope you’re having a fabulous Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

xo
