Sunday Spa Day: Two Amazing Masques For Summer Dry Skin

My Sunday Spa Ritual, clearly evidenced by how much product is missing from the bottom jar. :)

My Sunday Spa Ritual, clearly evidenced by how much product is missing from the bottom jar. :)

With the temperature reaching some-odd nuclear degrees outside, my skin feels constantly tight, dry and just generally unpleasant. It’s the fun of getting a little older, I guess…that whole feeling that somehow if you don’t drink at least two gallons of water a day and stay out of the sun you’ll suddenly emerge one afternoon with a beef jerky-esque texture and feel.

In efforts not to shrivel and wither, I tend to take a pro-active approach on Sunday mornings to help rehydrate and cleanse my skin with a one-two punch in the way of two masques that not only cleanse my pores but pack them full of moisture. So, while I’m watching CBS Sunday Morning, here’s what I’m doing:

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque – I’m obsessed with the feeling that something is working, and you can almost feel the Amazonian White Clay hoovering dirt, oil and environmental yuck out of your pores while Oatmeal and Aloe Vera helps soothe, hydrate, and protect even the most sensitive skin. If you have enlarged pores, this also helps minimize their appearance. I slather this on right before CBS Sunday Morning starts, then leave it on until it’s fully dry, usually about 15-20 minutes. I splash my face with water during the commercial break and remove all traces of the masque with a wet washcloth.

I follow that immediately by applying June Jacobs Intensive Age Defying Hydrating Masque over my clean, damp skin. I’m just going to say it: if you have concerns with dry, aging skin, this is the one of the best masques I’ve ever used in my life. It’s packed with a unique blend of hydrating plant-derivaties, gentle natural oils and Kombuchka™ (derived from black tea) to help neutralize environmental damage and protect skin from further issues from toxins and dehydration. Leave this on for the second half of CBS Sunday morning, and remove with a damp washcloth. If you have super-dry skin, just tissue off the excess and leave it on. If you fly a lot, this is a godsend for post-flight dehydrated skin.

That’s it. It’s a ritual I perform every Sunday that really helps with summer dry skin. These masques really do help soothe what seems to ail summer dry skin. Give them a try.

  1. A Gigartina seaweed mask also has amazing healing, repairing and moisturizing abilities. It’s got all kinds of vitamins, nutrients and minerals to pamper your skin. I make a gel by placing the dried seaweed in hot water and slather it on my face, then follow with my moisturizing oil.
