The Must Haves: Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow Pencils

I have always been a strong believer in the power of a good lipstick. My first memory (I think probably ever?) was of my grandmother, Dorothy, putting on lipstick before my grandfather got home. She used to keep me in a laundry basket (easier carrying, and it’s the reason I love the smell of clothes right out of the dryer to this very day,) hauling me around the house as she kept a home, singing the entire time. Throughout the day, she would plop the wicker basket filled with linens on her bed with me safely inside (probably playing with my toes, another tradition that continues to this day) and grasp a black case that contained lip pencil and lipstick, which she would apply with painstaking precision.

It didn’t matter how crazy the day; my granny was locked and loaded with a good lip, and she was ready to handle the situation.

A grainy goodie of me with my granny at four years old. You can't see the lip, but it's there. Love and miss you, Granny, you grand dame you.

As I moved into my teens, I became obsessed with finding the right lip look, a trend that continues today. I love lining a full lip and setting it with a touch of powder before applying multiple passes of lipstick and powder to get it to really set, like Marilyn Monroe used to do. But, honestly, I don’t have that kind of time anymore (WHO DOES? Stand up, please!) and these pencils are the solution to getting that effect with just one product.

Whenever Lipstick Queen creator Poppy King is going to do something, she does it with that tradition that inspired my grandmother in mind: vintage glamour with luxury quality. This collection of high pigment pencils, inspired by Hollywood actress Clara Bow, go on smooth and silky and deliver a dose of color that won’t budge. The edge is precise enough to line even the sharpest corner of your mouth without smudging, and the fill-in delivers a fantastic (nay, BRILLIANT) lip look.

Draw your lip in, let it set for 10 seconds. If you want more intensity, go over it again and don’t touch it for 30 seconds. You’re ready to leave the house, prepared to handle any situation.

The eight colors are divine, the product is easy to handle, and you’ve just discovered my new favorite product for summer. I’ve tested these pencils through a busy day, an all-day music festival and multiple dinners and breakfast meetings and they are the real deal.

Meet one of my new favorite loves from the lovely Poppy King. You’ve got to get your hands on these.
