We live in a society where it’s all too easy to be cruel. As a matter of fact, we’re getting to the point where I fear that we’ve become a snarky, backbiting group of people who loves to talk smack about people behind their back. People leave the cruelest, most unkind comments on blogs under the guise of being “anonymous” and we delight in television shows that bring the most animalistic kind of behavior right into our living rooms.
We have, in short, become a society of mean girls.
I see this kind of behavior every day on the subway, within the blogosphere and between people who are supposed to be friends. We have elected ourselves judge and jury of every characteristic of others, from the way they dress to their sexual orientation to what kind of bag they’re carrying.
Ladies and gentlemen, we really have to stop this kind of thing. It’s spoiling us for the lovely things about life and other people. It’s rotting us from the inside out.
Instead of passing judgment on others and acting in a manner that is judgmental and cruel, let’s try to find something about every person we come into contact with today. Try to see the good in others. Forgive transgressions. Let go of all that angst.
Because every person on the jury will eventually come before that group of their peers. You would hope they would be benevolent and kind when your time comes, wouldn’t you?
The grace and kindness the world needs starts with you. It’s the most fashionable, beautiful and stylish way to live in my humble opinion. Start today.
