Translate the Trend Fall 2010: Going Wild for Animal Prints

Is it possible to get anymore excited about these Fall 2010 trends? I say oh yes, ladies – yes it is! I am OBSESSED with all things jungle cat print.  It makes me stupidly happy and luckily for me (and you too), it’s one of the major trends we’ll be seeing a lot of this fall.
One of my favorite ways to utilize this print is as an accent piece that can be worn to spice up everything from a classic daytime look to a chic evening ensemble.  This Victoria’s Secret Cotton Drape Cardigan Sweater ($58) is a great way to add some new life to solid wardrobe staples like leggings, your favorite jeans and/or your favorite casual or dress tops.  I adore the draped open front of this sweater; it feels very easy and gives an elegant-yet-easy feel to your look, a perfect layering piece to add to your wardrobe as we transition into fall!
Another great way to throw some animal print into your look is with a simple scarf.  This  Ann Taylor Classic Animal Print Scarf ($58) is a gauzy silk/wool blend and a definite dash of animal magnetism to any outfit.  Try wearing the scarf over a cotton tee or light sweater; it’s a great accessory to take your everyday casual look to the next level.
Now let’s make this prowling print the main wardrobe item, like this Diane von Furstenberg “Safi” Satin Georgette Animal Print Shirtdress ($375.) How can you NOT love such a great dress?!?  MEOW! The dress is a silk/spandex blend, has long dolman sleeves with button-flap cuffs, shoulder epaulette detail and a fitted bottom to balance the volume of the top. This is a great day-to-night option for the office with simple jewelry, then add some baubles and strut into girls night out. If you want to add a dash of retro glamour,  add your favorite pair of cat eye glasses or witchy pumps.
There is no way I could pass up sharing these Steve Madden “Kobbe” Leopard-Print Flats ($69)  – they make me smile! I love the round toe and the shiny jewels on the vamp are TO DIE FOR. You will look so undeniably stylish in these reptile-embossed printed flats, especially with rolled boyfriend jeans and a slinky black sweater top for casual chic, or use them to doll up a simple dress…maybe a bright red if you feel wild? Bottom line: these shoes are considered a neutral, they’ll go with almost everything, and you absolutely need to add a pair to your closet this fall.
Even though this is a big trend for fall, remember that there is something about animal prints that make you look both refined and full of life. Invest in a few pieces and you’ll be wearing them forever because this feline, feminine print is a fabulous neutral that adds instant style and sex appeal and who wouldn’t want more of THAT in their wardrobe?
