Translating the Trends for Fall 2010: Look Cool in Camel

Fall is around the corner and shopping for the season is starting to feel right. Our Contributing Fashion Editor, Reese Pereira, is here to help you make your shopping list and check it twice. Here, she explains how to get in on one of the biggest hues this coming season: camel.

Camel is one of my all-time favorite hues to rock when it comes to cooler-weather coats, but for this fall let’s just say I’m pretty much planning on working the luxe hue into my entire wardrobe.  I adore the rich sandy color as a solid neutral that I can mix and match with the plethora of items I already have going on in my arsenal of clothing.
When it comes to the upcoming season, look for lots of camel being offered in sharply-cut women’s outerwear and there’s no getting around my absolute obsession with this gorgeous Diane Von Furstenberg Loren Coat (seen at top, $695).  It’s a stunning blend of wool and cashmere with a big romantic shawl collar.  If you have a camel coat (or, like me, plan on acquiring one such as this,) why not kick up the classic hue with a colorful dress and leggings?  I mean, honestly could you just die over this look?!? Sign me up now!  For those more inclined to classic hues, throwing it over a black or grey sheath dress will really make the camel color pop, or feel free to take it into casual territory with a basic tee and pair of your favorite jeans for an American sportswear-chic look.
Another way to add camel to your wardrobe this season is working the hue into your wardrobe via another trend, oversized knits. One of my favorite examples is the Michael Michael Kors Boxy Sweater ($99.)  It’s slightly cropped but has an oversized silhouette and lightweight feel that makes it incredibly versatile (not to mention the gorgeous drapey three-quarter sleeves and hem.)  This sweater would look so hot with a simple undershirt, some skinny jeans (or a fitted skirt) and knee-high boots with layered necklaces or bangles.
Camel has a timeless appeal and is versatile enough for use in both subtle and edgy designs, especially accessories like these mind-blowing Sergio Rossi Stamped Lizard Peep-Toe Pumps ($695).  The silhouette is sexy and extremely feminine, but still maintains an edge with its 5½-inch heel and 1½-inch platform, (not to mention that hot little peek of pedicure, ladies.)  These just might be my go-to pump for fall.  This sexy and versatile shoe can be worn with almost any color your heart desires and the almost-nude aspect of this color will elongate your legs! What’s not to love?
Almost every collection seen down the runway in February showcased touches (or collections) of  camel and I, for one, couldn’t be happier!  Add a few of these suggested pieces to your wardrobe; you won’t be disappointed.  Hooray for fall!
