I am honestly someone who lives to travel. I will pack a toothbrush and some eye cream with a swimsuit and a cotton dress (those are the essentials, really) to go anywhere at pretty much any time.
I’m also a rabid fan of Los Angeles-based cosmetics brand Urban Decay. If you’ve read this blog at all, you know they’re near and dear to my heart. So, when the brand (one love) invited me to LA (another love) for the launch party of their newest mascara, Perversion, I was all in and packed within the day. Have carry-on bag, will travel.
And so, a few of us boarded a flight bound for the City of Angels. First stop: The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which has become the place I stay when I’m out in Los Angeles. A little time by the pool never hurt a girl. Don’t worry: I was covered in SPF 50 the entire time.
Before we hit the venue, they gave us a sneak peek of the Perversion Mascara along with a couple of additional goodies to help us get ready, like Subversion Eyelash Primer and Super Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner.
Super Saturated is an AMAZING cream eyeliner for any kind of lining you need done, especially when you apply it with the Perversion Angled Brush. The Subversion Lash Primer was just the ticket to build a good base for the mascara to stay on all night, but the star of this killer trio is this crazy-good mascara. If it were “meh,” I would say so, but it’s SO FREAKING GOOD.
This is the way to get a thick, sooty black lash that used to take multiple products to achieve. Wiggle it into the roots of your lashes, one pull and you could be good for the day. It the darkest black I’ve ever seen, and it goes on super smooth and dries without turning all crunchy. Paired with the liner, it gave me just the rocker eye I wanted for the night.
Mascara firmly applied, we were off to The Sayers Club, a live music venue in Hollywood that Urban Decay turned into a peep show/burlesque review for the night, complete with DJ Kiss…
…lingerie-clad dancers, a performer with a whip, a contortionist, and one final surprise…. a performance by Natalia Kills. The song “Problem” got the crowd on their feet and Instagrams began snapping away.
We also had a chance to meet and interview actress/model Jaime King at the party, who was incredibly cool. That interview will be featured tomorrow, so stay tuned. Because you don’t want to miss makeup tips from a model that knows how to do her own makeup, trust me.
We departed the next morning (yep, a whirlwind trip) and came right back to New York City that evening. I threw on a little Perversion mascara and thoughts of the night before played in my head. The party and the mascara have really encouraged me to let my inner bad girl come out to play more often. After all, good girls go to heaven, but bad girls get to go everywhere. Consider my makeup bag officially “perverted” and converted. The mascara stays in permanent rotation.
